Joey Barton has been jailed for 6 months as a result of a bust-up outside a McDonald’s restaurant on December 27 2007.

He spent new year in custody over the same incident.

Keegan was paraded at St James’ Park today. He also confirmed that he would hold talks with Alan Shearer about a role at the club.

“If there is a role that Alan wants, and is right - that’s the key - then I would love to have him back here. I will definitely be speaking to him,” he said.

Barton has been “shocked” by the behaviour of Magpies supporters - especially their treatment of manager Sam Allardyce.

Barton made his Newcastle premierhsip debut today in their 2-1 loss to Reading.

It was a poor display by Newcastle and they were lucky to score at all. Barton had little part in the game, but Allardyce will be looking for him to come back strong after his injury. Newcastle have had a good start to the season and were predicted to win against Reading who had conceded 21 goals in 10 premier league matches. However Newcastle had a very bad day defensively.
