On his way back to the Premier League?

Joey Barton, now at Burnley, has made his ambitions clear, with promotion back to the Premier League the primary focus.

Joey is now 33 and nearing the end of his career, so wants one final shot playing with the big-guns. Most of his 20’s was spent playing for massive clubs such as Manchester City and Newcastle United, and he thinks he’s still got back it takes to play amongst the finest.

Joey’s last experience in the Premier League was not so good – he was relegated with QPR, after which he left the club.

Burnley are on good form now and firmly in the play-off places. With 15 games left of the season, how will they do?

Update: What Are The Odds on Burnley to Stay Up?

Now that Joey has experienced promotion back to the Premier League with his new club, we want to look at how he’ll get on. Often the best guide is to look at the bookie’s prices at the start of the season. So we went to the bookies to see what odds we could get on Burnley this season.

As you’d expect with a promoted team, the odds on them to win the league are silly. In fact they are one of the favourites for relegation, but there are a few other teams priced at similar odds which suggests the bookies think that they might have a chance of doing ok.

After experiencing relegation last time, you’d expect Sean Dyche would have learned from the experience and will be better placed this time to engineer a survival. With Barton in the squad it certainly looks stronger than before so we’ll be interested to see how they get on. Hopefully at the least Joey will stay out of trouble and enjoy his Premier League swansong.
